Trump Denies Seeking Strikes on Venezuelan Military Sites

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump on Friday refuted media claims suggesting that military strikes inside Venezuela were imminent, telling reporters that no decision had been made on the subject.

"Not, it's not true," Trump stated aboard Air Force One when asked whether he was contemplating attacks within Venezuela.

Several American news outlets had reported that the Trump administration was planning to target military facilities in Venezuela as part of its so-called campaign against “narco-terrorism,” claiming the strikes could occur at any moment.

A media outlet reported earlier on Friday that these proposed attacks — previously covered by The Wall Street Journal — aim to dismantle military bases used by the Cartel de los Soles, a drug trafficking organization the US accuses of smuggling cocaine into the country, and to disrupt trafficking routes that US authorities estimate transport approximately 500 tons of cocaine annually.

Washington has repeatedly accused Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of leading the Cartel de los Soles, a criminal syndicate operating in the South American nation. In July 2025, the US government labeled the group a “terrorist” organization.

Sources speaking to the media outlet indicated that the targets could be hit by air within “days or even hours,” while Washington has increased its reward for information on President Nicolas Maduro to $50 million, and offers $25 million for major associates, including Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello.

“Maduro is about to find himself trapped and might soon discover that he cannot flee the country even if he decided to,” the Florida-based newspaper quoted a source as saying.

“What’s worse for him, there is now more than one general willing to capture and hand him over, fully aware that one thing is to talk about death, and another to see it coming.”
